June 12, 2018

Hi everyone, here is the progress report for May!

Now I'm off to Annecy for a very busy week ;) I'll try do capture nice shots for next month's video, and once back from Annecy I'll work on the Open feature (indeed, saving is not very useful if you cannot open the file later...)

Thanks again for supporting me in this project!

Alright, so finally, I finished to implement the Save feature! So nothing fancy, you just go to the File menu, you select Save or Save As, you choose a filename, and there you go, your drawing is saved as an XML file!

As you may already know, I was in Toronto from May 8 to May 11 for the Graphics Interface conference, where I was giving a talk about my PhD work, and was awarded the Alain Fournier Award for best Canadian Computer Graphics Dissertation. Oh, and by the way, I recorded the entire talk and made it available on Youtube, so feel free to check it out, I've put the link in the description down below.

At the conference, there were a few projects related to vector graphics such as how to optimally pack small 2D objects into a given shape, how to convert any photo into vector art by using only small dots, and also how to animate vector graphics objects using physics. The conference was really, really nice! It was pretty small, just a few hundred attendees, but this made it super friendly, especially thanks to the various coffee breaks and the reception dinner where the awards where officially given.

Back from Toronto, I worked on the Save feature like I already explained, and I also became a member of Imaginove. So, what is Imaginove, you might ask? It is a non-profit organization, who is trying to help projects and businesses that belong to the digital content industry in the Lyon area in France. So basically, it is small startups like VGC, but also bigger companies like Ubisoft, who get together to help each others. For example, next week I am going to the Annecy Film Festival, and thanks to being a member of Imaginove, I was able to get a discount on the accreditation, and I was also able to get a small space on the exhibition floor to be able to promote VGC, which is awesome!

Anyway, that's it for this month, thanks for watching, and see you next time!

Stay tuned
